Cavities are caused by bacteria in your mouth that builds up between brushing. The acid created from these bacteria creates a hole in your tooth, which we all now know as a cavity.
Cavities can be prevented by following good brushing and flossing habits. Limiting your sugar intake will greatly lower your chances of hearing that you have a cavity at your next visit. One simple way to prevent cavities is to drink more water and chewing sugarless gum. Our staff is very highly trained in helping you create good habits so that you may prevent cavities.
Gingivitis is more or less inflammation of your gums. It is caused by plaque collecting along your gum line and causing swelling and irritation. It is the first stage of periodontal disease and if caught early, can easily be reversed. Making a visit to the dentist every 6 months will keep your gums and smile happy!
We would be more than happy to see your child as early as age 3. We encourage parents to bring their child in for a “fun” visit so that they can become familiar with the dental chair and our staff.
Absolutely, we would be more than happy to evaluate you to help determine your need for dentures and partials. This treatment is usually completed in approximately 4 appointments to help ensure the best fit for you, which will help you enjoy your smile for many years to come.
Your children’s back teeth have many deep and narrow grooves that the bristles on their toothbrush just cannot reach. Sealants are a material that bond to the tooth to help make keeping your child’s teeth easier to clean. Placing a sealant makes these grooves much shallower, therefore easier to clean. This helps prevent cavities down the road.
We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your dental visit. We do not offer general anesthesia at this time at our office, but we do offer nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide, which many of us know as ‘laughing gas’, can make your visit very pleasant. There are many benefits to using this in conjunction with your treatment. You will feel much more relaxed and calm, but will still be able to continue with your day after your visit is completed.
We offer two solutions to help you brighten your smile. First we offer teeth whitening which removes the stains on your teeth that have accumulated over the years from things like tea, coffee, and smoking. Second we can look at porcelain veneers, which cover stains that cannot be removed. Veneers can also close spaces that you may not care for. Our goal is to make you proud to show off your smile.
The dentist relies on x-rays to show cavities that are between the teeth and also any problems you may have underneath the gums. They show how deep a cavity is in relation to the nerves of the teeth, infection present, and also any bone loss you may have.
Even for those patients that come to the dentist on a regular basis, the exam is the most important part of your dental visit. The dentist not only is checking for cavities, but they are also looking at your tissue for any abnormalities.
